Freedom Rides Freedom of Information Act Files, 1961-1963, 1971-1977.

Photocopied documents obtained from the F.B.I. in 1999 under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) which relate to the F.B.I.'s investigation of the violence perpetrated against the Freedom Riders, the racially integrated group which rode segregated interstate buses in the South in 1961. The documents include memoranda, reports, summaries of witness interviews, photographs and diagrams, and laboratory reports evaluating items of evidence.

The FBI established this classification when it assumed responsibility for ascertaining the protection capabilities and weaknesses of defense plants. Each plant survey was a separate case file, with the survey, supplemental surveys, and all communications dealing with a plant insofar as plant protection was concerned, filed together.
